Everything About Latest Fashion For Women

With the 1970s mood that has swept fashion for a few seasons, it was inevitable that one of the era’s iconic looks would be revived.

This summer, the maxi is back.

Most of the women wearing ankle-grazing skirts weren’t around the first time maxis were popular, so the style looks new and fresh to them. They’re wearing the skirts and dresses to charity fundraisers, restaurants, cocktail parties and backyard barbecues.

The designs are as varied as the places to wear them. Some have a loose, bohemian flair; others are tailored. They are available in a wide range of fabrics, patterns and silhouettes. Prices vary, too. Such stores as Forever 21, Love Culture and Macy’s juniors department have them for less than $30. At women’s boutiques and fine department stores, one can set you back $500.

“A longer hemline looks good right now,” says Ken Downing, fashion director of Neiman Marcus. And he’s not talking only about maxis. “We’re in a mood for much more polite and ladylike dressing,” he says.

That noted, maxis are everywhere this summer. Downing says he has been seeing the “breezy, effortless bohemian” look everywhere from the streets of New York to the beach.

“Some of the patterns in summer dresses are directly inspired by the 1960s and ’70s; it’s all about your personal taste,” he says, adding that he likes them worn with bangles, a long necklace and either a flat sandal or a wedge. “You need a shoe with some heft to it,” he says.
